Pure Color - Artist Statement

Color is a state of mind.

My work is about experiencing color, letting it envelop you.

I am interested in the effects of light and color. As the light changes, so does the color. I want the color to envelope the viewer. There are no narrative elements to the imagery they exist as color, pure hue. I am only concerned with the color, how they blend and flow into one another. They are, in a sense, more meditative.

How can we really know a color? We can begin to understand its nature as we explore what it can do, how it mediates its form as it blends with another hue or even a darker or lighter aspect of its own hue.

My color palette tends to be a bit saturated, the colors of city. They are the colors at night with a bright tinge or glow to them. It’s the influence of growing up in NYC - the intense color of neon light against the dark night sky. The color gets burned into your brain, your subconscious and it always surfaces in everything - every time one picks up a paint brush and begins to work.

Color gives a more complete sense of place, even if that place is one that only exists on the canvas. Each color has meaning and speaks to our collective experience. My work explores those places that can only exist on the canvas Its. A place to explore the phenomena of color.
